The Polish award-winning Baroque ensemble Régence sonore presents concert entitled “Hidden gems - music from the 18th century Polish collections”.

Régence sonore:
Weronika Zimnoch - baroque violin
Krystyna Wiśniewska - baroque cello
Weronika Paine - harpsichord

Programme:

  • Johann Gottlieb Janitsch (1708 — 1763), Trio Sonata in G minor IJJ 32, 18th century

  • Joseph Meck (1690-1758), Concerto C minor (RISM ID no.: 1001077413), from music collection of Archdiocesan Library of Sandomierz, 1st half of the 18th century

  • Anonymous (?), Trio (sygn. A I 34 nr 34), from music collection of Archdiocesan Library of Sandomierz, 18th century

  • Anonymous (?), Trio (sygn. A X nr 530), from music collection of Archdiocesan Library of Sandomierz, 18th century

The music of 18th-century Poland, while still relatively unknown, is rich in compositional discoveries. The program focuses on manuscripts from the Archdiocesan Library of Sandomierz, which include works by local Benedictine nuns and other collections from the region.

Johann Gottlieb Janitsch, associated with the Berlin school, created music in the “Empfindsamer Stil,” evident in his Trio Sonata in G minor. Joseph Meck, a German composer from Eichstätt, gained recognition for his Violin Concerto, which combines Vivaldi’s influences with virtuosic passages. Ananonymous piece, dated to the late 18th century, features an elegant manuscript and classical stylistic elements. The final trio, a transcription of Polish folk dance music, merges baroque elements with folk influences, radiating energy and irregular rhythms. These discoveries highlight the diversity and musical richness of this period in Poland.
